Leaving on a Jet Plane

..."don't know when I'll be back again."
--Peter, Paul, and Mary

Actually in about two weeks. I'm headed to Ireland with Melissa & a couple of other couples. I'll try to blog overseas but I'm not sure if it will work.

We'll see if I activate the dirty bomb detectors with all the radiation I've had. Appartently, this is a real problem according to some of the cancer "help sites." I'll kiss the "old sod" for all of you.

I probably don't need to tell you this, but it probably wouldn't hurt to pack an abridged copy of your medical history in your carryon.

Or, if you were so technologically inclined, MedicAlert makes this awesome flash drive keychain that comes pre-programmed with this really handy interface to program all of your doctor, prescription, and medical history. We had one for Eric, and it was an incredibly convenient way to carry all of his info. I don't usually pimp specific products, but this one really helped us out.

Site is here:

Hi Tommy,

I'm glad to hear you are getting this trip in. Much of the time you and I have spent together has involved music and alcohol, so here's to you getting plenty of both on this trip!

I'm usually more of a talker than a typer (no wise cracks please), but I think this site is great. At times like this is may be easier to type and what a shame if you don't say what's on your mind.

I don't want to feel like I am writing in your Dowling yearbook, I think I already did that! So in keeping with the musical tone you have set, I want to share some lyrics from a great American poet that seem fitting:

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung.
May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true.
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong.
May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of change shift.
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung.
May you stay forever young.
-Bob Dylan

I hope I haven't broken any copyright laws, but I'm sure you or Sr. will let me know if I did.

Before and after your diagnosis, you have carried many of the qualities contained in this song. I have always admired and respected you and now I can say I am inspired by you.

You and your family are in our thoughts every day. For me, my friend, you will always be Forever Young. Enjoy your trip.

Johnny Mac
